The market for initial public offerings climbed to new heights in 2021, raising more capital than ever before and even besting the deal count of 1996. SPAC IPOs and a soaring stock market were strong tailwinds that kept the market going even after special purpose acquisition companies came under increasing regulatory scrutiny beginning in March. But the market has already begun showing signs of slowing.
