The number of criminal antitrust prosecutions decreased during the Trump administration, but there is reason to believe that they may be on their way back up.
While the Trump administration’s Justice Department didn’t bring quite as many antitrust prosecutions as prior administrations, it began a number of investigations and task forces that may lead to prosecutions in the next few years. It takes a long time and solid investment for investigations into cartels to result in criminal charges. For current initiatives to pay off, however, the DOJ may need more resources.
