Maryland’s new online safety law has forced companies to examine how they treat the data of those under 18 under requirements other state legislatures are likely to consider mirroring next year.
The parts of the law that went into effect Oct. 1 restrict how businesses can collect and process data from minors online. The law, known as the Maryland Kids Code, applies to a broad range of digital services likely to be used by children and teens.
