Zambia Intensifies Daily Rolling Blackouts to 12 Hours

Zambia increased the number of hours of daily power cuts to 12 on May 20 from 8 previously, Energy Minister Peter Kapala says.

• Blackouts will be cut into two six-hour blocks, he says in statement
• State-owned power utility Zesco has steadily increased its power imports as a measure to reduce the deficit to support industries during the emergency period, raising them to 188 megawatts
• Zesco has clawed back power from export contracts totaling 160 megawatts
