Williamsburg Hotel’s Owner Fights to Keep Mayer Brown as Counsel

The U.S. Trustee’s push to disqualify Mayer Brown LLP as bankruptcy counsel for the owner of the Williamsburg Hotel would be the “death knell” for its reorganization, the company said.

The Brooklyn hotel’s owner, 96 Wythe Acquisition LLC, pushed back Thursday against an earlier motion from the Justice Department’s bankruptcy watchdog arguing that the firm should be taken off the case because of a conflict of interest.

Disqualifying counsel just prior to the debtor’s scheduled plan confirmation hearing “would most likely precipitate liquidation, which would be devastating to the estate,” 96 Wythe said.
