Warner Bros. failed in its effort to buy derivative rights assets from bankrupt “Matrix” studio Village Roadshow after a judge signed off on a sale to Alcon Media Group instead.
The studio behind popular films including “Joker” and the “Ocean’s” saga won court approval late Wednesday to sell its assets to Alcon for $18.5 million in cash. The ruling came over objections from Warner Bros., which had increased the cash portion of its offer to $19.5 million following an auction in a last-minute attempt to buy the rights.
