Virgin Orbit moved closer to selling a specialized 747 airplane and a California rocket factory to a pair of companies for more than $30 million after a bankruptcy judge indicated she would approve the sale.
The space-launch company, which filed for bankruptcy in April, plans to sell its modified Boeing 747, known as Cosmic Girl, to Stratolaunch for $17 million and its California rocket factory to Rocket Lab for $16 million. Those companies won an auction on Monday for the assets. Virgin Orbit on Tuesday said it would sell its assets and shut down.
