The Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, Vt., filed for bankruptcy to address an influx of child sex abuse claims, joining a growing roster of Catholic entities that have sought similar protections.
The Catholic organization filed for Chapter 11 on Monday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Vermont. Its bankruptcy comes as Catholic dioceses across the country face a yearslong reckoning with a deluge of child sex abuse lawsuits.
