A group of sexual abuse survivors urged a court to dismiss USA Gymnastics’ Chapter 11 case, arguing that the sport’s governing body is using bankruptcy protections to avoid public scrutiny and delay litigation over an alleged organizational cover-up.
USAG, which is facing lawsuits over claims that it failed to protect gymnasts from former national team doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse, has shown it doesn’t intend to quickly reach a viable resolution with the victims, a tort claimants’ committee said in a dismissal motion Tuesday at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
