US Bankruptcy Tracker: Courts Saw Second-Most Cases Since 2009

US bankruptcy courts capped the second-busiest year since the wake of the financial crisis in 2009, witnessing just over 200 large bankruptcy filings, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

  • The second half of December saw bankruptcy filings from the likes of online automotive components retailer Parts ID and scooter sharing firm Bird Global
    • In all, US courts saw 202 bankruptcy filings with liabilities of more than $50 million last year, compared to 244 in 2020 and 293 in 2009, according to Bloomberg-compiled data
