U.S. Buddhist Group Challenge $24 Million Vegas Monorail Sale

The Justice Department and a Buddhist organization say they will be harmed by Las Vegas Monorail Co.'s plan to sell the city’s elevated train to a local government agency for $24 million.

The nonprofit is on the cusp of selling its seven-station monorail system, connecting the city’s major casinos, to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

But the deal should be rejected by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada because it would transfer property the company doesn’t own, the World Buddhism Association Headquarters said in a Nov. 6 filing.
