The Claim Is in the Mail: Postal Delays Mar Bankruptcy Cases

It’s not just holiday gift senders worrying about the mail these days.

A bankruptcy judge pushed back the date when creditors must file their claims by almost a month to make sure they arrive by the deadline.

Companies have tried to speed up their trips through court, but “you can’t ignore the reality of the mail system here,” U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Karen Owens said at a hearing Friday for Gulf Coast Health Care LLC, a Florida company that operates more than two dozen skilled nursing homes.
