Thai Airways Corruption Evidence Forwarded to Finance Ministry

A Thai Ministry of Transport panel on corruption forwards evidence against Thai Airways International involving under-priced tickets and employee overtime costs to the Finance Ministry for consideration in the airline’s bankruptcy petition, according to the panel’s head Komkit Wongsomboon.

  • The Transport Ministry finds potential corruption in three main areas:
    • Underpricing of tickets, resulting in losses of “tens of billions of baht per year”
    • Excessive overtime costs totaling more than 2b baht per year, mainly among mechanics, nearly matching normal salaries
    • Nine Airbus 340 planes that have been in need of repairs since purchase and are currently parked in U-Tapao International ...
