An NRG Energy affiliate suing Ector County Energy Center for about $400 million attacked the legitimacy of the Texas power plant’s bankruptcy filing, arguing it may be a ploy to benefit a parent company, Invenergy LLC.
Ector County Energy Center filed for Chapter 11 protection this week, in large part blaming a pile of lawsuits that emerged after a winter storm put it out of commission during a crucial window for electricity production last year. The largest suit is from an NRG Energy subsidiary, which alleges Ector failed to uphold a derivatives contract tied to power production.
