Texas Couple Limited in Guns It Can Claim Exempt in Bankruptcy

A married couple could exempt from their bankruptcy only two firearms together, not two each, a Texas bankruptcy court ruled.

In his Dec. 26 opinion, Judge Harlin D. Hale, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, held that Texas’ state law exemption statute for two firearms applied to a couple the same as it would an individual debtor. The court said it was the first time a court had addressed this question.
