Steward Health Bankruptcy Plan Appealed by DOJ, Massachusetts

Massachusetts and a Justice Department unit appealed a bankruptcy court’s approval of Steward Health Care System LLC’s liquidation plan, which aims to set up a trust to pursue potentially billions of dollars in claims for creditors.

The appeals come after Judge Christopher Lopez of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas last month approved the company’s wind-down plan. Steward was once the largest privatized health-care network in the country before it filed for Chapter 11 last year.
