Steward Health Bankruptcy Judge Denies Bid for Tort Committee

Hospital patients with medical malpractice claims against Steward Health Care System LLC lost their bid to form a formal committee to represent them in the company’s bankruptcy case.

Judge Christopher Lopez of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on Wednesday denied a request to appoint a committee funded by Steward’s estate to represent aggrieved patients who could be owed hundreds of millions of dollars.
