Environmental regulators in Pennsylvania and Maryland objected to KTRV’s bankruptcy plan after the coal miner allegedly failed to meet compliance obligations at unsold mining sites.
The bankruptcy plan, filed last month, doesn’t address affiliate Heritage Coal and Natural Resources LLC’s violations of Pennsylvania and Maryland mining laws or its ongoing water treatment and reclamation duties, the state environmental protection agencies said in separate objections filed Tuesday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
