Spirit’s LaGuardia Slots Should Go to Low-Cost Carrier, FAA Says

The head of the US Federal Aviation Administration said coveted slots at New York’s LaGuardia Airport once held by defunct Spirit Aviation Holdings Inc. should go to a low-cost carrier or be retired.

“As long as the slots are going to a low-fare airline and for the public good, the FAA and DOT would support that,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford told reporters in Charleston, South Carolina.

If that’s not possible, “then the option would be to retire the slots and just get rid of the congestion.”
