Sorrento Shareholders Suit Over Houston Court Scandal Rejected

Sorrento Therapeutics Inc. shareholders can’t pursue a lawsuit accusing the company’s CEO, bankruptcy counsel Jackson Walker LLP, and other restructuring professionals of fabricating a bogus bankruptcy connection to Texas.

Thirteen Sorrento equity holders lack standing to bring their lawsuit alleging a “sham” bankruptcy in Houston in 2023, Judge Alfredo Perez said in a Monday opinion in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.

The allegations tie to a longstanding scandal surrounding former Houston bankruptcy judge David R. Jones’ romance with onetime Jackson Walker partner Elizabeth Freeman.
