Sorrento Defends Using PO Box, Bank Account for Texas Bankruptcy

Sorrento Therapeutics Inc. and its attorneys defended the company’s filing for bankruptcy in Houston, saying venue was properly established with the opening of a bank account and P.O. box days in advance.

Sorrento and its lawyers from Jackson Walker LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP responded Wednesday to Justice Department accusations that they took part in an “abusive venue manufacturing scheme” to get the biotech company’s Chapter 11 case filed in Houston—one of the most popular locations for companies to seek bankruptcy relief—as opposed to a more geographically-appropriate court.
