Simon Property Sees Growth in Retail Brands Amid Outlet Focus

Simon Property Group Inc.’s investments in struggling retailers during the pandemic paid off in 2021. Now, as customers return to in-person shopping, the mall owner seeks to expand its footprint and revive construction, rather than seeking out new brand targets.

In an interview Thursday, Chief Executive Officer David Simon said the company is “seeing organic growth within our existing brands, but we have really no plan to keep adding to that.”

“We’re very selective,” he said. “So we’re looking for opportunistic investments if they come along, but today in retail we see no distress at all.”
