Bakers Footwear Group Inc. filed for Chapter 11 protection Oct. 3 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri (In re Bakers Footwear Group Inc., Bankr. E.D. Mo., No. 4:12-bk-49658).
Court documents indicate that the mall-based retailer of shoes for young women operates approximately 216 stores around the country and employs an estimated 3,920 individuals on a full and part-time basis. Headquartered in St. Louis, the company was founded in 1926. It became “Bakers Footwear Group Inc.” in 2001 following the purchase of selected assets of the “Bakers” footwear retailing chain.
