Damage to Puerto Rico’s power grid in the wake of Hurricane Fiona could reach $1 billion, an official with Luma Energy, the island’s grid operator, told El Nuevo Dia newspaper.
- The price tag includes damage to transmission lines, substations, posts, transformers and distribution lines, Daniel Hernandez, Luma’s director of renewable projects, told the newspaper
- Hernandez said the figure was still preliminary
- Power has been restored to 71% of the island after Hurricane Fiona clipped the western tip of the island Sept. 18, causing a general black out
