A Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority worker union sued the electric utility to block a New Fortress Energy unit’s 10-year takeover of power generation assets.
A deal to put New Fortress subsidiary Genera PR LLC in control of PREPA’s power plants—responsible for nearly 70% of the island’s generation capacity—would create a monopoly in violation of local law, the Unión de Trabajadores de La Industria Eléctrica y Riego, or UTIER, said in a complaint filed Friday in the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
