Precious Metal Refiner Republic Metals Files Bankruptcy in New York

Republic Metals Refining Corp., a precious metals refinery and mint, and two affiliated companies, filed for Chapter 11 protection Nov. 2 in New York.

The Miami-based company estimated in court documents that it has between $100 million and $500 million in debts, and between $1 and $10 million in assets. Its largest creditor is Laurelton Sourcing LLC, Parsippany, N.J., with a $17.15 million claim. Coeur Mexicana SA de CV, Mexico, has a $9.66 million claim.
