Police Union Filed Bankruptcy While Appealing Sex Assault Suit

The International Union of Police Associations AFL-CIO said it filed for bankruptcy to continue operating while it appeals a $2.25 million judgment over its alleged failure to prevent workplace sexual assault by a Broward County, Fla. employee.

Sarasota, Fla.-based IUPA would have struggled to operate and continue serving its members without filing for Chapter 11 last week, the national law enforcement union said in filings Monday with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.
