PG&E Judge Asks Appeals Court to Allow Quick Ruling on Contracts

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Dennis Montali urged the federal appeals court for California to quickly take up any challenge to his ruling that federal regulators cannot block PG&E from seeking to end its power contracts while the utility is in bankruptcy.

  • The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission may appeal Montali’s ruling, as the agency did in a similar case in Ohio; some of PG&E’s power providers may also try to overturn the ruling to protect their lucrative electric supply contracts from cancellation
