The Diocese of Oakland, Calif.'s deadline for a settlement over how to compensate child sex abuse claimants was extended again, keeping its bankruptcy alive for now.
The diocese avoided the dismissal of its Chapter 11 case after reaching an eleventh-hour agreement Wednesday with mediators and a committee representing sex abuse survivors in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. It was up against a 5 p.m. PT deadline to show that it made progress toward a deal.
