NHL’s Evander Kane Wins Bankruptcy Order to Wipe Out Most Debts

NHL player Evander Kane received a court order that wipes out much of his debts, after a contested battle with creditors who tried to take greater control of his Chapter 7 case.

The discharge order, granted by the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday, doesn’t dismiss Kane’s case but prevents many creditors from collection efforts.

Chapter 7 discharge orders are routine and issued by courts within months. But Kane, a player for the Edmonton Oilers known for bruising play on the ice, had to fight for more than two years for the court’s relief.
