Navient Faces Second Nationwide Bankrupt Student Borrower Class

A New York bankruptcy judge certified a class of private student loan borrowers accusing Navient Corp. of trying to collect debts that were wiped out in bankruptcy, marking the second nationwide class certification ruling against the loan servicer in two weeks.

A class action “is plainly a more efficient way to address the claims” than individual actions brought by the hundreds or thousands of affected borrowers, Judge Elizabeth Stong of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York said in her ruling Tuesday.
