Montreal Maine Disaster Victims Recover $200 Million Under Canadian Settlement

Trustees for Montreal Maine & Atlantic Railway Ltd. negotiated a settlement to bring in $200 million for the 48 killed and others who sustained damages when a runaway train derailed and burned in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, in July 2013 (In re Montreal Maine & Atlantic Railway Ltd., Bankr. D. Me., 13-10670, trustee’s report 1/12/15).

A plan of arrangement was filed last week with the Quebec Superior Court. A companion will be filed soon with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Bangor, Maine, according to a Jan. 9 statement by Meyers & Flowers.
