Modell’s Sporting Goods Inc. is asking to extend a temporary pause of its bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings at least until the end of May as the coronavirus pandemic continues to prevent going-out-of-business sales.
The company says liquidating its 134 retail locations is the “cornerstone” of its bankruptcy, but it was forced to shut down its stores in response to Covid-19 containment measures just days after it was authorized to conduct going-out-of-business sales.
The retailer was granted an emergency request March 27 to “mothball” its Chapter 11 case until the end of April.
