Mayer Brown Expands Global Restructuring Team With Foley Lawyers

June 24, 2021, 6:22 PM UTC

Mayer Brown LLP has recruited three bankruptcy lawyers as part of an initiative to grow the firm’s restructuring capabilities.

Douglas Spelfogel will co-lead Mayer Brown’s Global Restructuring practice in New York, where Leah Eisenberg will be a partner. Derek Wright will join the firm as a partner in the Chicago office.

All three come from Foley & Lardner LLP, where Spelfogel led the Restructuring Group in New York and co-led the firm’s Corporate Trust and Bondholders Rights team.

“These recent additions advance the firm’s strategy to be the premier law firm of choice for complex cross-border restructuring mandates and will add to the growth of the firm’s finance, structured finance, private equity, funds and litigation capabilities,” Adam Paul, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Global Restructuring practice, said in a statement Wednesday.

The three attorneys have represented clients in prominent bankruptcy proceedings, including the cases of J.C. Penney Co., Peabody Energy Corp., Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, Purdue Pharma LP, and Latam Airlines Group SA.
