Massachusetts Seeks $52 Million from Steward in Hospital Charges

Bankrupt Steward Health Care System LLC’s push to deprioritize the payment of $52.1 million to Massachusetts that was meant to fund a health-care safety net program should be rejected, the commonwealth said.

Massachusetts would be unlikely to receive any recovery under Steward’s motion to reclassify priority tax and administrative expense claims into general unsecured claims, the commonwealth told the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in a June 27 filing.

“The Motion is the latest attempt by Steward to avoid its obligations to the Commonwealth while it retains all of the benefits it received,” the commonwealth said. ...
