Mariner Health Units Seek Bankruptcy After Wrongful Death Ruling

Mariner Health Central Inc., a nursing home operator in California, filed for Chapter 11 protection, unable to pay more than $14 million in damages for wrongful death and injury findings of 10 former residents.

Mariner Health and two affiliates need bankruptcy court protection to ensure continued operation and value of their 121-bed Parkview Healthcare Center in Hayward, Calif., according to a Monday filing by the debtors’ chief restructuring officer, Lawrence Perkins, in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
