Kirkland & Ellis LLP said a lawsuit accusing it of benefiting from and hiding the romantic relationship between a bankruptcy judge and a local attorney lacks support and the person who brought it doesn’t have standing.
Morton S. Bouchard III, the former CEO of petroleum barge company Bouchard Transportation Co. Inc., in February filed a suit against Kirkland, former bankruptcy judge David R. Jones and Elizabeth Freeman, the Texas bankruptcy attorney with whom Jones had an undisclosed romance. The suit also named Jackson Walker, Freeman’s employer, as a defendant.
