The US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal over the balance of power between Puerto Rico’s governor and the federal board overseeing the island’s finance restructuring, letting stand the board’s decisions to nullify a spate of local laws.
In a petition denied on Monday, Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Pierluisi had urged the justices to examine judicial standards for reviewing decisions by the Federal Oversight and Management Board that effectively “call into question the foundations of Puerto Rico’s self-rule.”
