Judge Christopher S. Sontchi of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware will retire June 30, 2022, the court announced.
Sontchi has served as a bankruptcy judge since 2006 in one of the busiest bankruptcy courts in the nation, including as chief judge between 2018 and 2021.
During his tenure, he presided over numerous Chapter 11 cases, including American Home Mortgage, Energy Future Holdings Corp., Borden Dairy, and Brooks Brothers, according to an announcement Monday.
Bankruptcy Judges are appointed for 14-year terms, which are frequently renewed.
