Johnson & Johnson’s talc liability holding unit said Brown Rudnick LLP should be blocked from representing an official committee of cancer claimants in the company’s bankruptcy due to “extreme positions” the firm has previously taken against the propriety of the case.
Urging the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas to reject a pending application by the claimants’ committee to employ Brown Rudnick, Red River Talc LLC said in a filing Wednesday that the firm “could undermine the committee’s efforts” to support a Chapter 11 plan that resolves tens of thousands of mass tort claims.
