J.C. Penney’s bankruptcy plan administrator is seeking phone records for ex-bankruptcy judge David R. Jones to see if he secretly communicated with attorneys who handled cases he presided over.
The subpoena seeks various records from AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile US Inc. for a cell phone associated with Jones, including call attempts, voice and text message transactions, and the numbers the judge texted from roughly February 2020 to October 2023, according to a notice filed Wednesday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
