How do you value a shopping mall amid the wreckage of U.K. retail? The collapse of Intu Properties Plc suggests the real estate industry is about to find out.

It’s been almost two years since a large U.K. shopping center was sold, making it hard to know what they’re really worth. But something had to give, and on Friday it did: the owner of nine of the country’s largest malls collapsed into administration, and creditors are now planning their next move -- including potential sales.
