Imerys Italian Unit Must Be Tossed From Bankruptcy, Insurers Say

A federal judge will consider insurer calls to dismiss the Italian unit of Imerys Talc America Inc. from bankruptcy, which poses potential problems for the company’s plan to pay more than $1 billion to thousands of cancer patients.

Judge Laurie Selber Silverstein of the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware said she’ll consider evidence presented at a hearing Wednesday before ruling on requests by several insurers to dismiss Imerys Talc Italy’s Chapter 11, which they say was filed in bad faith.
