Hertz Customers Jailed on False Theft Reports Ask to Sue Insurers

A group of former Hertz customers who say they collectively spent over 2,332 days in jail because the rental car giant filed false police reports is asking a bankruptcy court for permission to sue its insurers.

False Police Report Claimants No. 3, one of three similar customer groups, says Hertz Corp. filed the theft reports against them when the company misplaced its vehicles or failed to record legitimate rental extensions. The three groups represent a total of 170 individuals.
