Heller Estate Gets $9 M Settlement in JewelClaims, Fees With Ex-Attorneys, Clients

SAN FRANCISCO–A federal bankruptcy judge approved Aug. 11 settlements worth $8.9 million to the Chapter 11 estate of Heller Ehrman LLP ending adversary proceedings brought against former Heller attorneys, another law firm, and ex-clients (In re Heller Ehrman LLP).

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Dennis Montali in the Northern District of California approved the $4,996,213 in payments from Covington & Burling to settle Jewel v. Boxer, 203 Cal. Rptr. 13 (Cal. Ct. App. 1984), claims over unfinished business that attorneys brought with them to Covington when they left Heller.
