- Baker McKenzie hires three former Greenberg lawyers for Miami office
Two international law firms are bolstering their restructuring practices ahead of an anticipated rise in bankruptcies as efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus continue to take their toll on the global economy.
Greenberg Traurig LLP added three new shareholder lawyers to their restructuring department: Peggy Hunt and Annette Jarvis in Denver, and Jason DelMonico in Boston, the firm announced Tuesday.
“We are prepared for the challenge and are already addressing the most pressing issues for businesses that may appear regionally, nationally, and globally from economies hampered by COVID-19, recession, or any other catastrophic occurrence,” Greenberg’s Executive Chairman Richard A. Rosenbaum said in a statement.
Hunt has 30 years’ experience, including as a Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 trustee, while Jarvis has experience with state insurance rehabilitation and liquidation cases and has served as an expert witness on aspects of U.S. bankruptcy law, the firm said. Both are fellows in the American College of Bankruptcy and formerly worked at Dorsey & Whitney, LLP.
DelMonico, formerly of Holland & Knight LLP, has nearly 20 years of experience, including with debtor-in-possession financings and the restructuring of troubled credits, Greenberg said.
The additions come on the heels of the firm adding Bruce Zirinsky and Gary Ticoll to its Florida location, and Ian Jack to its London office.
Baker McKenzie Additions
Meanwhile, former Greenberg Traurig attorneys Mark Bloom, Paul Keenan, and John Dodd are joining Baker McKenzie’s global restructuring and insolvency practice, the firm announced Tuesday. All three are based in Miami.
“As we navigate the next economic downturn, being ready with a strong R&I practice is crucial for us to support our clients,” Baker McKenzie’s North America CEO Colin Murray said in a statement. “With Mark, Paul and John, we are well positioned to guide clients through the uncharted territory we are now in.”
Bloom, who has more than 35 years of experience, currently serves as chair of the American College of Bankruptcy and is a member in the International Insolvency Institute.
Keenan is a “go-to debt restructuring lawyer for major global companies,” while Dodd is a “rising star” with experience in business reorganizations, liquidations, distressed asset acquisitions and sales, financial restructurings, and loan workouts, Baker McKenzie said.
