- Giuliani launched coffee brand with an online video this week
- Creditors have aggressively pursued his financial ties
Rudolph Giuliani’s creditors moved to subpoena a company linked to his new line of coffee, just days after he announced the product.
The request for documents, filed Friday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, seeks information from Burke Brands LLC about its ties to Giuliani and Rudy Coffee.
It’s the latest effort in an aggressive push by creditors, including two Georgia election workers who hold a $148 million defamation judgment against him, to compile information about Giuliani’s finances as he navigates bankruptcy. A committee representing his creditors has sent subpoenas to his son, associates, and the billionaire radio station owner who recently suspended him.
A friend of Giuliani told MarketWatch that Rudy Coffee was being made in collaboration with Burke Brands.
The subpoena seeks communications between Burke, Rudy Coffee and Giuliani and information about Burke’s role in the sale and distribution of the product. It also seeks details about revenue and compensation related to the coffee.
Rudy Coffee offers a dark roast called “Fighting for Justice,” a decaf option called “Enjoying Life,” and a medium roast called “America’s Mayor.” A two pound bag costs $29.99.
Giuliani launched the coffee in a short video posted on X, formally known as Twitter, on Tuesday.
“You all know I stand by the truth,” Giuliani begins the video.
“Believe me when I say, it’s the best coffee you’ll ever try,” he says in the video, which appears to be shot in front of a green screen depicting a Manhattan apartment.
The former New York mayor filed bankruptcy after he was ordered to pay a $148 million judgment for telling lies about the 2020 presidential election.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP represents the committee. Berger Fischoff Shumer Wexler & Goodman LLP represents Giuliani.
The case is Rudolph W. Giuliani, Bankr. S.D.N.Y., No. 23-12055-shl, 5/24/24.
