George Weiss Approved to Sell Monet Painting in Bankruptcy Case

Bankrupt hedge fund manager George Allen Weiss won court approval to sell a Claude Monet painting to an undisclosed buyer.

Judge Robert A. Mark of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida approved the sale of the painting for $36.5 million during a Thursday hearing. He said the sale is in the best interest of the estate, was adequately marketed, and resulted in the highest and best value available.

The buyer, represented by attorney Jennifer Morris of Morris Art Law, requested anonymity for privacy and security reasons and agreed to pay the broker approximately $2 million fees. ...
