FTC Demands 23andMe Privacy Be Safeguarded in Bankruptcy (2)

The Federal Trade Commission warned Monday it would be closely watching the potential transfer of millions of Americans’ sensitive personal data amid genetic testing company 23andMe Holding Co.'s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.

FTC Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson reiterated the importance of privacy protections to be upheld during the bankruptcy process in a letter Monday to the Office of the US Trustee. 23andMe filed for bankruptcy March 23, prompting concerns from several state attorneys general who advised residents to quickly ask the genetic platform to delete their data.
