FTC Files Bankruptcy Sale Objection Over Education Data Privacy Concerns

The Federal Trade Commission May 22 filed an objection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to the proposed sale of bankrupt education technology company ConnectEDU because it raises concerns about the future of personal information collected from high school and college students, as well as their parents and counselors (In re ConnectEDU, Inc.objection filed).

The filing included a letter from the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) outlining the commission’s privacy concerns about the sale of the assets of the company, which provided guidance to its clients on career choices.
